Introduction to Ham Radio: a Practical and Historical Perspective.

Wednesday, November 13th we welcome Brandon Hockle NQ1W, President of Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association

Presentation will feature 2 or 3 short films highlighting the hobby of amateur radio through the decades from the 1930s to the present and a brief history of the Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association and historic clubhouse in Gloucester MA.

Mr. Hockle will also bring some equipment to do some practical demonstrations of ham radio and will show some of the resources in Danvers people are using today in the hobby. Those interested will be given additional resources, should they seek to become credentialed fully licensed operators. Q&A afterwards.

Brandon Hockle’s background is in computing technology working for Apple, IBM, and Microsoft R&D. He helped start up various tech companies in Cambridge/Boston such as Endeca acquired by Oracle Corp in 2011 and the publicly traded industrial video platform Brightcove, Inc. He Microsoft R&D in 2010s to be a stay at home Dad devoting my time to my family and to various not for profit organizations and STEM education centers. He has been active in radio since 1980s as a DJ with broadcast stations in New York State such as Oswego State, Sienna College, Skidmore College, and RPI. His is an FCC licensed extra class amateur operator NQ1W and President of Cape Ann Amateur Radio Association in Gloucester, MA. They are an American Radio Relay League Special Services designated Club and are celebrating over 50 years helping amateur radio enthusiasts on the North Shore and beyond.
