Though I couldn’t be in two places one Wednesday evening, I realized that the evening, at Glen Magna was going to be not only special but also emotional. From what I understand, there were lots of kudos from new president David McKenna. (I know his late mother Ellie Ross would have been so very proud.)
One of the highlights was recognizing Tom Page, outgoing society president. McKenna explained that Page had “Put the Society on a path of momentum by finding new ways to engage our members, friends, and visitors, even during the pandemic. With Tom’s leadership, we have created stronger ties to our community and provided more opportunity to understand the history of Danvers and its significance to the Commonwealth.”
Going down a list of accomplishments under Page, McKenna noted that Page recalled helped complete the sale and transfer of the General Israel Putnam Homestead to a Putnam descendant preservation group, his efforts to secure nearly $400,000 in grant and capital funding for restoration projects over the last five years, and his leadership in making Glen Magna Farms a community and private events destination on the North Shore.”

If you know George Saluto, a good friend of Tom Page, then you know there would be something fun and exciting — and certainly different — that he would come up with. George presented a special bottle of Madeira wine to Tom in its own magnificent casket, like a treasure chest. The plaque included the following:
“The Trustees, Staff and members of the Society acknowledge and cherish your personal passion and resoluteness that reaffirmed the Society as an essential and vibrant partner in the community.”
I’m sure Tom Page and his wife will drink to that! Congratulations to all those who have been working hard to ensure that the Danvers Historical Society will continue to carry the cause forward and will continue to preserve those irreplaceable things that make Danvers special.
